1. What is Lifelong Access to PCs Through Training for Older People. (LAPTTOP)?

LAPTTOP is a project that allows people over the age of 50 and their carers living in the Rochford District, or in the close proximity, to learn about computers. The aim is to allow better contact with friends and family and to help keep the grey matter working!

There are various parts to the LAPTTOP project.

  • A 9 week informal beginners course.
  • Short 4 week taster courses at other locations by arrangement.
  • Training for people in their own homes who have mobility or access problems.

2. What can I learn about Computers?

We can help you learn the basics of many different types of software, how to e-mail friends and family, how to browse the internet and much, much more. You don't need to know anything about computers.

3. Who can have a LAPTTOP home visit?

People over the age of 50 who find it more difficult to come to the course, can arrange for a visit to their own home. All that we ask is that you have some difficulty in accessing any part of the project. We can bring a laptop or help you with your own equipment.

4. What do I pay?

To keep the project running, we make nominal charges for most of our activities. The 9 week course that is run in Rochford and Rayleigh costs £45 per person. Home visits also carry a small charge of £10 per visit to help cover expenses. Courses can be arranged specifically for other community and charitable organisations, but the organisation must provide a venue at their own cost. The course fee payable to RRAVS is then £45 per person (minimum of 10).
