Volunteers at the heart of a great project!

Cllr Julie Gooding shares some inspiring news about the Rochford PPE project.

I would like to highlight a great project which has been ongoing throughout the whole pandemic thanks to the hard work of volunteers.

I have been overwhelmed by the incredible amount of community support during these past few months. #Rochfordppeproject has been involved in making and distributing thousands of items of PPE to hospitals, EPUT, sheltered housing, carers in the community, schools, hospices and preschool/childminders.

Key workers have been so appreciative of the generosity of our volunteers who have cut out patterns, sewn fabrics, organised fundraisers and donated toward our district-wide people in need, freeof charge. These garments have been gratefully received with letters/cards/emails of thanks – providing the comfort and reassurance that when going about their daily tasks they have a level of protection.

I would like to thank all of the volunteers who have contributed to our community. Items such as Reusable gowns, bandanas, ear protectors, hats, scrubs, fabric masks to name a few of the garments being distributed. In addition to this we have assembled over 9000 face shields which are still being distributed to schools and preschool/childminders to meet the recently ‘back to school’ movement.

Special thanks go to Lynne Woolley whi has been a massive support in helping organise this project.
