Residents and businesses have the opportunity to tell Rochford District Council about their future spending priorities, by taking part in the budget survey.
Your views are essential, as they will help the Council make the right decisions as it sets its financial plans for future years. We need to know about the services that matter to YOU so please go to www.rochford.gov.uk/budgetsurvey and give us your thoughts by the deadline of October 24th, 2021.
Rochford District Council spends more than £15m each year providing a diverse range of services including:
• Recycling and Waste Collection
• Street Cleansing
• Accommodation for the Homeless
• Leisure Services
• Planning Services
• Building Control Services
• Parks and Open Spaces
• Safeguarding and Community Safety
We need your views on how we deliver these key services in the future as we face increasing financial constraints.
Between 2010 and 2021 Rochford District Council has delivered a range of efficiencies totalling around £6m whilst continuing to deliver the key services that residents have told us they value. Despite this the Council continues to face budgetary pressures from COVID19, rising inflation and increasing demand for public services, which create an expected difference between the level of funding available and the amount of money the Council needs to spend (called the budget gap), of around £2m within 5 years.
Leader of Rochford District Council, Cllr Simon Wootton, said:
“The last 18 months have been very challenging for everyone, but despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic Rochford District Council has continued to deliver its key services throughout, with our teams going the extra mile in support of residents, including payment of over £30m of grants to local businesses.
The full financial impact to local authorities of COVID19 is still being established, but we do know that demand for our services continues to increase while the Council’s resources remain constrained, so it is now more important than ever that our residents and businesses make us aware of their priorities for the coming year.
We are grateful to people who took the time to participate in last year’s Budget Survey, as this helps to inform our priorities for the services we provide, as well as offering useful suggestions for the future. We have responded in this year’s budget by creating a new Community Safety Fund of £100,000 to fund investment in safety measures across the district, as well as a Town Centre Regeneration Fund of £50,000 for public space improvements, to help to boost footfall in our town centres and high streets, which will help create the right conditions for our local economy to thrive.
The 2021 Budget Survey is your chance to influence how the council should allocate its resources, inform us of the services you most value, and help shape the future direction for our district.”
The survey is available online, simply log on to www.rochford.gov.uk/budgetsurvey.
