‘Platinum Purse’ doubles to support Jubilee celebrations
The Council has doubled the budget of its Platinum Purse scheme, set up to support community groups organising street parties to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  The Council received a total of 61 applications from groups who will be marking the Queen’s landmark achievement with their own street and community celebrations.

The Platinum Purse fund was originally set with a budget of £10,000 in total.
However, because of the overwhelming demand, the Council has increased the budget to £22,550. which means we will be able to provide funding for all of the received applications.

Cllr Mike Webb, portfolio holder for commercial, business, local economy and leisure, said:
“I am delighted that so many of our residents and community groups will be coming together to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of service to this nation. As a Council, we wanted to support our residents in coming together to mark this occasion and it’s great to see that so many activities are now being planned.”

Cllr Arthur Williams, portfolio holder for community, said: “We are so pleased the funding has been such a great success and we look forward to seeing and sharing all the pictures of the events and activities in the district.”

The Platinum Purse programme is now closed to any further applications.
To mark the Jubilee, the traditional May Bank Holiday is being moved to Thursday 2 June.
An additional Bank Holiday, on Friday 3 June, means a four-day weekend of celebration, with a host of events.
Thousands of street parties and neighbourhood gatherings across the country are expected to take place as part of The Big Lunch, on Sunday 5 June.
