oral health imageBetween 15 May and 15 June, is national smile month when we raise awareness of the importance of having good oral health, as well as promoting the value of a healthy smile.

There are many health issues that can affect people because of poor oral hygiene. Sadly, inequalities continue to impact our residents including children and young people, in mid and south Essex, despite the many improvements in oral health.

During this National Smile Month, a campaign from the Oral Health Foundation, Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (MSEICS) want to reach out to local people where oral disease is far too common and make a difference.

Helping children keep a great smile for life

Children are a priority for the ICS, so we want to instil great oral hygiene in children which is essential for them to enjoy a health lifelong smile. You can give your children the best start by:

  • Make sure they brush their teeth twice a day.
  • Ensure they brush for two minutes, last thing at night and one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Cut down how much and how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
  • Visit the dentist regularly
